Several days ago, when the lockdown aiming to hinder the spread of the Corona virus started, Ariel and I needed to wear a face mask to go to the supermarket. But “mascherine” were nowhere to be found, sold out everywhere!
So I resorted to making them myself, thanks to the pattern kindly provided by The National Sewing Circle in the USA, my always resourceful FB friend.
Furthermore, I was looking for information about what material is best to use for DIY masks and I found this article (click here).They say that of course the most filtering material is the vacuum cleaner bag paper, although rather annoying on our face skin, yet cotton fabric is very good, especially the T-shirt material. So I made the prototype for our use, and the result was satisfying.
A few days ago I was talking to my friend Marta on the phone, and she told me that she and her husband also found no masks to buy. Anyway, she said, in this period I have absolutely no desire to go out, even just to catch a ray of sunshine with all the precautions .. I offered to create masks for them too.
I made them with a pure cotton Jersey fabric, of which I had some at home in a nice gray colour. Ariel and I delivered them to Marta with the agreement that I would put the package in the mailbox and, once Marta was in the lobby, we could say goodbye protected by the glass of the front door. It was a good time, getting to see a loved friend and smiling at each other even if at a distance.
But the nicest feeling came to me when, after receiving the mask, Marta wrote to say that it is so comfortable and elegant that it makes her want to go out! Hmm, I am not sure if in these days this is something to wish, but .. in my opinion, yes, because it is a desire for life!
