La Copertina ׳חלה׳ per il pane di Shabbat

Description

A very vivid and tender imagery from my Jewish studies is the depiction of Shabbat as a special bond with the divine, a time when we are blessed with a second soul, when that which is good and holy is doubled.

Indeed, on Friday evening when we do kabbalat Shabbat, the reception of the Sabbath, our songs speak of a bride and a groom joining together.

I was inspired by this combination of genres and colours when I chose to match the blue of the brocade fabric with the pink of the cotton for the embroidery of the word Challah.

You might say, wow! what an old-fashioned stereotype! I may have been inspired by the tradition of baby girl or baby boy colours - which btw I find adorable! Yet, I have always interpreted the special connection that we can attain at the arrival of Shabbat as the blending of the fragments of our soul, of all of its nuances of feminine and masculine energy.
