Black Roses

LiOr Designs was asked to make 30 decorative roses for a photo shoot by Identity Mood, prominent hair stylists in Modena.

Black roses.

Carte blanche on the material to use. However, a disuniform effect was desired, like a monochrome materic texture.

LiOr designed the flowers using her two passions: silk and Japanese papier-mâché.

Silk, to match the glossy, glamorous softness of the models' hairstyles.

Japanese papier-mâché to convey, as a counterpoint, a rawer, leathery and, especially, original materiality.

LiOr hand-painted the papier-mâché roses, with black acrylic colour mixed with a binder to make it thicker and brighter and achieve a deep, almost life-like optical effect.
