Paravento “La Tenda di Abramo”

Every time I read about Abraham and Sarah in the Bible, of their life in that tent that gently opened its wings in the desert, where they offered their hospitality, their love for teaching throughout a long life together...

I close my eyes and I see the image that I have depicted in building this strong partition/mirror.

I used two back panels from an old Ikea wardrobe, which were still fit and stable. I joined them with new hinges to form a book-like piece that can open and close. I fixed two new mirrors on the inside of the naked frames. Then, using old issues of the magazine 'Parole Ebraiche' (kindly provided by the office of the synagogue in Modena), I covered, over the course of days, the outer surface and the frame around the mirrors of the inner one using the Japanese papier-mâché technique.

Once very dry, I applied on the print paper a light layer of a beautiful natural paper of a very white materic texture. Finally, I painted the outer side of the partition with acrylic gold, creating a 'canvas' effect due to the crossed brushing.

Two elegant crystal knobs, shaped in a faceted fashion, are inserted in the section of the door.
